Thursday-July 12

The Carter County Humane Society will meet at 6 p.m. at Doe River Baptist Church.

Roan Mountain Lodge No. 566 F&AM will have an official visit from the Grand Lodge of the State of Tennessee representative body on. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7 p.m. All members and visitors welcome.

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17 and Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at the Southside School Building on Southside Road. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with a business meeting to follow at 7 p.m. All members are requested to attend. New officers will be installed at this meeting. The chapter meets the second Thursday of each month.

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Music for the dance will be provided by the Rambling Rose Band. Those attending the event are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge.

The fourth annual Elizabethton/Carter County Community Foundation Golf Tournament in memory of Peggy Merryman will be held at the Elizabethton Golf Course, with registration beginning at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon with a shotgun start for play at 1 p.m. The tournament is open to two-person teams that can be comprised of men, women, mixed and seniors of all playing abilities. A family reunion for the descendants of Calvin T. and Diana Adelaide Greenwell Andrews will be held at Shelter No. 3 in the Roan Mountain State Park Campground. The Watauga Valley Art League will hold its annual summer picnic at Winged Deer Park in the Meredith Pavilion off Carroll Creek Road in Johnson City. Members are asked to bring a pot luck item of their choice. The League will provide the meat and the paper goods for the picnic. Activities will begin at 9 a.m. with coffee and sweet rolls with the main meal being served from 1 to 2 p.m. League members will be painting bird houses for use in a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Unicoi. A Good Ol’ Summertime Breakfast Buffet will be held at the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, 428 E. G St., from 7 to 10 a.m. Tickets on sale now for $5 each. Tickets purchased at the door will be $6. Children under 10 eat for $3. Carryouts will be available for $5. The menu for the all-you-can-eat buffet will include biscuits, gravy, sausage, pork tenderloin, scrambled eggs, pancakes, hash browns, apple butter, juice and coffee. Entertainment will include Karaoke with Michael Hawkins All proceeds go to support the center and its activities.
