Thursday-May 24

The Roan Mountain 12-Step Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. at Magill Presbyterian Church, 296 Highway 143, Roan Mountain.

The John Carter Chapter of DAR will meet at the picnic area at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton. Members are asked to meet at noon and bring picnic foods to share.

 

Friday-May 25

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Music for the dance will be provided by the Rambling Rose Band. Those attending the event are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge.

An afternoon of karaoke and dancing will be held at the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center from 1 to 2 p.m. Come to sing or dance to the music. Refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome.

Uptown Country Band will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Outdoorsman on Stone Drive in Kingsport. Admission is $5. For more information, call Daryl Goodman at 943-5600.

The Green Pastures Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 8 p.m. in the Conference Room at Crossroads, 413 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton.

 

Saturday-May 26

The Patton-Simmons Cemetery Decoration Day Service will be held at 11 a.m. The cemetery is located off the Powder Branch Road. For more information, call 239-7655.

A Security Guard Training Class will be taught beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the B&K Community Center on the Old Bristol Highway in Elizabethton. The class will consist of unarmed, armed, renewal, chemical spray, baton and handcuffing. State Certified Trainer Ken Potter will teach the class. For cost and to enroll, call 543-6048 or 341-1709.

Borderline will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Buffalo Ruritan Club in Bluff City. Admission is $5.

Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step Closed Meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at Crossroads, 413 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton.

 

Sunday-May 27

Lakeview Cemetery will have its annual meeting at 2 p.m. at the cemetery. All interested parties are encouraged to attend.

A Memorial Day Service will be held at Whitehead Cemetery in Butler at 2 p.m. David Finney will deliver the service. In case of rain, the event will move from the cemetery to Elk River Baptist Church on Highway 321. For more information, call 725-2606.

Monday-May 28

A Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at 9:30 a.m. in honor of Memorial Day at the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The public is welcome. Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey will serve as speaker for the ceremony. The event will also feature a special flag presentation by the Carter County Honor Guard, special music by bagpiper Jon Shell and a message of remembrance from Rev. John Perkins. The Al-Anon “Free To Be Me” Family Group will meet at 6 p.m. at the Watauga Baptist Association Building, 3871 Highway 19E, Elizabethton.
