Copperheads reign supreme at Myrtle Beach

By

Myrtle Beach is well known to vacationers as South Carolina’s “Grand Stand.” It couldn’t have been more “Grand” for the East Tennessee Copperheads this past week in the 16-and-under United States Basketball Association tournament held at North Myrtle Beach High School.
Made up of players from area high schools, including Hampton, Elizabethton, Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett, ETC won the national championship by capturing five straight victories in bracket play.
This came after dropping their first three game in pool play. The Copperheads entered Thursday’s tournament round seeded last in the field, but some loosey-goosey play over the next three days was just want the doctor ordered to cure those defeats — according to head coach Eddie Mccrary.
