Mayor Curt Alexander agreed that the water portion of the North Elizabethton Utility bill should at least be paid before any discussion of the penalties takes place. He also noted that the WRRWA was not the agency that owed the city money for the water bill, but the utility.
City Manager Fred Edens presented council with a request from the Watauga River Regional Water Authority to settle the debt owed by the North Elizabethton utility district. WRRWA Interim Director Bryon Trantham requested that council and WRRWA officials meet in a workshop to discuss the almost $92,000 owed to the city by North Elizabethton for unpaid water bills and late fees. Edens said they wanted to discuss having the debt reduced by lowering some of the penalties that were attached to the bill.
