County considering adoption of an archives department
Tonight’s Carter County Public Records Commission will give members the opportunity to consider the adoption of a records management and archives department, along with the use of a fee to support the project.
Since taking office in 2010, Carter County Mayor Leon Humphrey has publicly advocated for an official archives department to store historical documents dating back to the late 1700’s. “Archives is an extremely important project,” said Humphrey. “Most of the current offices are bursting at the seams. We’ve run out of room to house these documents. Most importantly, however, we need to be concerned with the proper preservation of the critical documents that date back to the beginning of the county.”
