County couple go to bat against intruder

A Carter County couple with baseball bats held an intruder with a gun at bay over the weekend until police arrived.

Deputy Paul Morell of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to 1593 Broad St., Elizabethton, on Friday at 9:18 p.m. in regards to a burglary in process. The deputy said officers found the property owner, Mark Deal, and his wife, Anna Deal, standing with baseball bats over the suspect, Timothy Berry. A Raven Arms. 25-caliber semi-automatic handgun was lying on the floor about six feet from Berry, the officer stated in a report.
