Cyclones put away Warriors in second half
With Happy Valley sinking pivotal shots on top of the homecoming jitters, Elizabethton’s boys had their hands full in the first half of Friday’s Three Rivers Conference showdown.
The second half was a world of difference for the home team. The Cyclones of late took hold of the Treadway Gymnasium floor and turned a three-point halftime lead into a 20-point, 69-49 victory over the rival Warriors.
“We started playing the way we have been playing in the third quarter,” said Elizabethton coach Lucas Honeycutt. “We moved the basketball and got defensive pressure. For whatever reason we forgot to do that in the first half. It was nice to see them turn it around.”
The win clinches second place in the conference and gives Elizabethton a bye in the upcoming District 1-AA tournament, but, more importantly, an automatic berth into the region.
