Cyclones desire greater presence on mats

Donnie Shipley has been involved in wrestling since he was a young boy, following in the steps of his father.

And after six years as a high school assistant at Daniel Boone and Dobyns-Bennett, and one as the head man at T.A. Dugger Junior High, Shipley has taken over the reins of the Elizabethton program. The coach feels he has arrived, fulfilling his life-long ambition and believes he has the athletes to succeed.

“It’s just been a dream,” Shipley, 29, said during Wednesday’s practice. “I remember writing a paper in the sixth grade saying my dream was to be a history teacher and a wrestling coach.”
