Postseason time is heating up with just one night of hoops out of the way for the boys.
District 1-AA tournament time finally got the green light for the boys of the Three Rivers Conference on Saturday at Bayless Gymnasium, with three games coming down to the wire.
In the opening contests, Sullivan South withstood a feisty effort from Happy Valley to come out on top, 65-57. In game two, it was much of the same with a 26-16 effort in the fourth quarter putting the Cyclones in the winner’s circle, 62-51, against Sullivan North.
The nightcap did not disappoint, with Chase Phillips leading Johnson County with 21 points to give the Longhorns a 57-53 win over Sullivan East.
All three teams will advance to the Region 1-AA tournament set for next week. Sullivan South and Elizabethton will meet in the first district semifinal game on Monday at 5:30 p.m., then Johnson County plays top-seeded Unicoi County Blue Devils at 8:30.
