Elizabethton’s wrestling team seems to be gelling with the Region 1-AA tournament just over a month away.
The Cyclones disposed of South Greene 69-12 and Happy Valley 66-12 on Thursday night at Treadway Gymnasium.
“We’re definitely looking better,” Elizabethton coach Jeff Nye said. “We’ve only got the region less than a month now, so definitely we’ve got to practice on some things. We looked in good the matches that we did get, other than the forfeits.
“We looked pretty good. I was very pleased.”
It was an evening marred by numerous forfeits. Only four matches took place between the Cyclones and Happy Valley, which had just one match in a 36-24 loss to South Greene.
“We went ten and three tonight, so we won the vast majority of the matches that we wrestled in,” Happy Valley coach Joe Carter said. “With the wrestlers that were here, they were very successful. We wrestled well, but the dual format we just didn’t have the numbers to compete.”
