Cyclones regroup in overtime, dismiss Grainger

A buzzer-beater to tie a game at the end of regulation normally deflates the team giving up the big shot. On Saturday night, it had the opposite effect as Elizabethton was able to withstand a game-tying three pointer and scored all the points in overtime.

The Cyclones (23-8) overcame Grainger 68-57 in the Region 1-AA quarterfinals at Treadway Gym.

Up by three with five ticks left, the Cyclones turned the ball over and Grizzlies forward Bailey Lamb drained the game-tying shot as the horn sounded to knot things up at 57.

“When I saw it go in, I said ‘dang.’” said Cyclone junior forward Tyler Nichols. ”At first I was confused. We had fought back so hard to get the lead, but then we just said, ‘There’s more game to play,’ and they ended up not scoring in overtime.”
