Elizabethton wasn’t about to play “Motel 6” for the boys from Unicoi County on Friday. The Cyclones turned the lights out early on the Blue Devils in their 42-7 win inside of Brown-Childress Stadium.
The victory was “suite” for the Cyclones, who’ll now play Sullivan South next week for the conference championship. Head coach Shawn Witten applauded his team for taking care of business and not looking ahead.
“For the last couple of weeks we’ve started slow and had to kick it in gear,” said Witten. “But I’m awful proud of our kids. We kept our focus and composure knowing what was at stake next week. We came out and did what we needed to do to win and put ourselves back in the championship game. It’s a tough thing to do when a you’re young teenager and want to look ahead, but our guys have done a great job of staying focused.”
