Cyclones succumb to Patriots

Overcoming a big run was one thing. Answering the call of a second was another.
Sullivan East stretched a 20-2 run midway through the game, outlasted an Elizabethton comeback with a fourth-quarter surge and held on for a 55-49 win over the Cyclones Friday night at Treadway Gymnasium.
“It’s a big win, a huge win,” said Sullivan East coach John Dyer. “We haven’t won very often here. This is a hard place to play. I’m proud of my team and their effort. (Elizabethton’s) got a lot of weapons and have a good basketball team.”
East’s senior sharp-shooters Austin Fleenor (18 points, six treys) and David Casaday (14 points, three treys) combined for nine three-point makes, while senior post Jonathan King added a double-double of 10 points and 14 points to key the first of two pivotal Three Rivers Conference regular-season meetings between the two programs.
