Hundreds of people have already been heading to Doe River Gorge this summer for a day filled with fun and adventure! On select Saturdays throughout the summer families and groups can zip down a 700-foot water-landing zipline, get blasted by The Blob, swim in a mountain lake, play on the white-sand beach, or enjoy one of the new lake activities for 2012: Jungle Joe and The Rockit.

Doe River Gorge opens up the man-made lake during Day Quest for families and groups to enjoy a day of fun in the sun.

If your adrenaline still needs charging, engage in a battle at the paintball course, enjoy a guided horseback trip along beautiful trails, play a game of sand-court volleyball, or seize the 9-hold disc golf course. When you’re ready to slow down, take a scenic train ride on the historic rails of the former East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad, where you will see some of the most majestic scenery in the Eastern United States. You can also play tether ball, corn hole, go hiking, eat a delicious lunch, enjoy snacks, check out the gift shop, and much more.

According to the 2010 IRS Form 990 “Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax”, Doe River Gorge Ministries reported $2,002,905 in total revenues (with program service revenue of $1,186,773) and that President Terry Maughon of Doe River Gorge Ministries received $100,655 in compensation and benefits during 2010 for his average forty hour work week…

How is that some of these clearly “program service revenue” recreation activities pitched to local families and tourists at Doe River Gorge are tax exempt and not paying taxes to the Carter County government?
