With its ace injured, Elizabethton used four of a kind to gain the upper hand inside a “full house” at Bayless Gymnasium on Friday. A 67-58 win over Happy Valley didn’t come easy, nor without a price.
Leading scorer and Tusculum point-guard signee Morgan Depew suffered a leg injury with her team ahead 13-10 with 1:56 remaining in the first quarter. Play was stopped for nearly 10 minutes. Afterward, the team would rally in her absence.
“From my perspective I saw a team really come together and pull together,” said Elizabethton coach Len Dugger. “After the injury, they played the rest of the game with determination and heart. I told them that’s what Morgan would want them to do. I expected them to give that kind of effort.”
