First place was on the line in Johnson County Little League play on Saturday with the Dodgers and Dawgs trying to settle the score. And just like they did in the 1960s when Hall of Famers Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax took the mound, the Dodgers dominated the game with a couple of outstanding pitching performances.
Shane Green and Ben Howard combined to throw a one-hitter, helping their team knock off the Dawgs 8-1 at Cunningham Park.
Green allowed only one hit — an infield single to Weston Throop in the first inning. He struck out 11 in four innings before giving way to Howard, who closed it out.
Unlike the second game, the first contest was not a pitchers’ duel to say the least. But it didn’t matter to the Diamondbacks, who collected their first win on the season.
The two teams combined to walk 30 batters and hit three more.
