It might still be the dead of winter but businesses in downtown Elizabethton are making plans for the annual spring spruce-up in the historic shopping district.
Each spring, John Huber leads a work crew from the Carter County jail the downtown-area projects. Huber recently told members of the Downtown Business Association that a main project this year will be to repaint the canopies covering the sidewalks.
“The paint is starting to fade and in some places they have faded back to the aluminum,” Huber said.
While the crews are painting, Huber said they would also replace any burned-out light bulbs in the canopy lights and the lighted sign boxes for the businesses. He also noted that new, blank, plastic panels were available for businesses that need to update the directional sign under the canopies.
The repainting project will begin in the spring and is expected to be completed in a couple of months.
