E-Twins oulast Johnson City in 14 innings

By

“Christmas in August” was the theme for Friday’s game at Joe O’Brien Field as Elizabethton faced Johnson City in an Appalachian League game that had a playoff feel to it.
Elizabethton gave the home faithful its “belated” Christmas gift as second baseman Tanner Vavra reached on a bunt single in the bottom of the 14th inning and later scored the winning run on a wild pitch as the E-Twins (29-26) won their seventh straight with a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals (28-27).
Right hander Josh Burris (3-2) got the win with a shutout inning of relief as Vavra and leadoff man Zack Granite both took advantage of JC left handed reliever Ismael Brito (0-1) and his tendency to fall off the mound toward third base after delivering a pitch.
