Edens to retire from Elizabethton city manager’s post

Fred Edens will step down as Elizabethton city manager effective Jan. 4, 2013.
Edens, who became city manager in April 2008, said he is retiring to help care for his mother and to take some time to take care of himself, as well.
Edens said that during his tenure in Elizabethton, changes had been made to streamline and improve city government operations.
One major area of focus was the improvement of the city’s utility infrastructure in the water, sewer and electric departments. Projects are under way to finish the renovations to the city’s electric substations, to upgrade the sewer pumping stations and to replace aging water lines throughout the city.
