Members of the staff at the Elizabethton Housing and Development Agency held a special ceremony Monday afternoon to dedicate the EHDA garage in honor of late Maintenance Supervisor Jim McKinney.
McKinney was the maintenance supervisor for the EHDA for 30 years until his 2008 retirement, and he worked for the agency for a total of 33 years. McKinney is still the longest-serving employee in EHDA history.
“It just seems fitting to recognize him for his service,” said EHDA Executive Director Kelly Geagley.
McKinney died on Jan. 20, 2013 when he was 71. The EHDA board of directors approved naming the garage in his honor during the board meeting on July 23.
To mark the dedication, a black stone marker was installed in the side of the garage.
The marker includes an image of McKinney and details his time with the agency. It also includes a brief memorial to McKinney on the marker.
