EHDA seeks answers to new water bill fees

The Elizabethton Housing and Development Agency board of directors is seeking answers from city officials after an unexpected charge appeared on the agency’s utility bills this month.
EHDA Executive Director Kelly Geagley informed the board that a $10 per unit water system improvement surcharge from the City of Elizabethton had been placed on the agency’s water bill for each of the 326 apartments in the agency’s control. The extra fee results in an extra $3,260 per month and $39,120 per year that was not figured into the EHDA budget.
