The pressure was obviously on, and Elizabethton’s basketball team delivered.
Sullivan North refused to go away, but the Cyclones maintained their composure and prevailed 67-58 in Tuesday night’s Region 1-AA tournament semifinals at John Treadway Gym.
Elizabethton (25-6) faces Sullivan East (26-7) on Thursday night at 7 or the region championship, with home-court advantage for the sub-state round on the line. The Cyclones are at this stage for the first time since 2003.
“Right now it’s winner go home, and I think nobody wants to go home,” said junior point guard Zeke Clark, who paced Elizabethton with 14 points and four steals. “So a lot of teams are going to play a whole lot harder, and they’re going to make a whole lot more plays than they normally would.”
