KINGSPORT — Elizabethton’s basketball team opened Three Rivers Conference play in a victorious manner, and there is obvious room for improvement.
The Cyclones saw Sullivan North rally within six points in the fourth quarter, before holding onto prevail 52-43 on Tuesday night at Richard Carroll Gymnasium.
“It was an ugly win, for sure, but I thought the kids made enough plays to win the game,” Elizabethton coach Lucas Honeycutt said. “Even though it was ugly, we did some things we’d been talking about. Working little things, like getting some post touches and taking it to the rim — instead of standing out there and shooting threes. Which there were those in there, too, but we did a better job of finishing that tonight.”

The Lady Cyclones (6-1) cut loose for 39 points in the first quarter en route to the rout.
“I thought our kids played hard and did a lot of good things,” Elizabethton coach Len Dugger said. “I have to respect Sullivan North. They’re trying to get their program going.”
