Elizabethton found the perfect gift for head coach Lucas Honeycutt, who recently celebrated his birthday. The Cyclones’ 19-0 run on Saturday night blew out Clinton like a box of cheap candles aligned on a one-layer frosted cake.
’Betsy’s 76-60 win was much different than their 79-78 victory over the Dragons back on Dec. 3. Honeycutt didn’t mind that this one was over in time to watch the Packers’ playoff game.
“Will Robinson took four charges and a couple of those came during that run that got them frustrated,” said Honeycutt. “Wagner came in and blocked some shots and Norwood played the passing lanes well, which helped us get some steals. Zeke did a great job with a tough defender on him and Hunter Combs shut down one of their good shooters that hurt us last time. It was a total team effort. They took care of business.”
Whitney Roberts scored a career high 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in leading ’Betsy to an easy win.
The Cyclones blew out to a 17-0 lead and led 28-7 after one.
“We wanted to go out and make them play our game and not play to their level,” said Roberts. “We didn’t want to let hang around or make a game of it. It was good because everyone got to play. I thought we put them away early.”
