Elizabethton Twins get out of doldrums

BRISTOL, Va. — Sometimes small ball can produce the biggest result of all.
A sixth-inning flurry of hits, headsy baserunning and a pitching mistake erased the offensive doldrums for Elizabethton, turning what was an abysmal one-hit effort into a 2-1 victory over the Bristol White Sox in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader at Boyce Cox Field.
“We hit the ball hard and up until the last inning it was at-em balls,” said Twins manager Ray Smith. “We’ve had a difficult time scoring runs, so we’ll take them. It doesn’t matter if its bloops, bunts, we’ll take it that way.
“There’s many ways to win baseball games. Sometimes it’s defense, sometimes it’s pitching, sometime’s it is a combination of all of that. But I think that’s what makes the game the way it is.”
