Enrollment numbers up for fifth year in city schools

For the fifth year in a row, enrollment numbers at in the Elizabethton City School System continued to climb which led to requests for more teachers and concerns about the space available in the schools.

The Elizabethton Board of Education heard an update on the enrollment numbers during their meeting on Thursday night. Director of Schools Ed Alexander told the board that enrollment in the school system was up by 507 students from the 2007-2008 school year which represented a 26 percent increase. Total enrollment in the 2007-2008 school year was 1,978 students and enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year is at 2,458 students.
