Mrs. Evelyn McCoury Dunn, 74, of Mountain City, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011, in the Cannon Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was the daughter of the late Rev. Dayton and Oda McGuire Jones and was born in Avery County, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, T.Y. McCoury; two sons, Dayton Randall McCoury; a baby boy McCoury; three sisters, Geneva Henson; Della Ingram; Willa Bunting; and a brother, Eddie Sherrill Jones.

Mrs. Dunn was the retired owner/operator of the McCoury Tree Farm and Nursery as well as a homemaker. She was a member of Beech Mountain Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest Dunn, of the home; two sons, Tim McCoury and his wife, Helen, Butler, TN; Greg McCoury, Elk Park, NC; two daughters, Becky Wilson and her husband, Tom, Mountain City; Glenda Trivette and her husband, Lowell, Elk Park, NC; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Jones, Newland, NC; Michael Jones, Elk Park, NC; two sisters, Mary Alice Parlier and Rachel Jones, both of Elk Park, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Dunn will be conducted on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at 3 p.m. in the Rhododendron Chapel – Tetrick Funeral Home – Roan Mountain with Rev. Reed Callahan and Rev. Richard Jones officiating. Music will be under the direction of Shane Guichard. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 2 to 3 p.m.Sunday prior to the service or at the homes of any of the family at other times.

Interment will follow the funeral service in the Beech Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Matt Daniels, Bob Dunn, Allen Ingram, Sam Harmon, Wayne Harmon and Vance Trivette, Jr.
