Former Hampton Elementary School teacher Kelly Andrae Smith pled guilty to a statutory rape charge and two charges of attempting to solicit sex from another minor.

On Thursday afternoon, in Carter County Criminal Court, Smith, 31, told Judge Robert Cupp he was pleading guilty to one count of aggravated statutory rape and two counts of solicitation of a minor.

Smith was indicted on the three charges on July 15 by a Carter County grand jury. The indictment states that, between the dates of Dec. 1 and Dec. 30 in 2012, Smith had sexual relations with a 16-year-old girl. In court, Smith told Cupp that the girl was a former student.

The indictment goes on to state that, between March 24 and April 10 of this year, Smith also attempted to “request, persuade, invite, or attempt to induce” a 13-year-old girl to engage in sexual behavior via electronic communication.
