Withstanding a close call with Daniel Ball Convertors, Farm Bureau Insurance finished the season without a chink in its armour.
After slipping past Convertors 10-9 in semifinal play, FBI went on to upend J’s Corner 8-2 and capture the Rookie League tournament championship at the Elizabethton National League park.
Tournament play wrapped up on Saturday.
After going unbeaten in the regular season and blanking Phil Bachman in opening-round play, Farm Bureau avoided the upset bug aginst DBC. Austin Burchfield led the way with a 4-for-4 effort that included a home run and double.
Adding 2-for-3 efforts were Trenton Taylor-Ricker, Ashton Wilson and Bryson Rollins, with Taylor-Ricker belting a roundtripper.
Jaiden Rittenhouse, who tripled, was joined by Zach Holtsclaw, Clara Smith and Ashton Hardin in producing 1-for-3 showings.
For Daniel Ball, Kaden Street totaled four hits in five turns at the dish. Cole Blackwell, Mason Ball, Drew Turner and Johnny Cline each batted 2-for-4 — Blackwell tripled for both his hits — while Clayton Ball contributed a 2-for-5 output. Carter Davidson went 1-for-5.
J’s Corner topped IGA 7-0 in the other semifinal, pitting J’s against FBI for all the marbles. Bureau got the job done behind leading performances from Rollins (3-3, double) and Wilson (3-3).
Strong complementary contributions came courtesy of Burchfield (2-3, 2 doubles), Gavin Roark (2-3, double), Rittenhouse (2-3, double) and Taylor-Ricker (2-3). Smith chipped in a 1-for-2 effort, with Holtsclaw going 1-for-3 with a double.
Collecting two hits apiece for J’s were Alex Gouge (2-2), Seth Carter (2-2) and Padraig Murphy (2-3). Zach Stevens, Jacob Williams, Caleb Franklin and Conner Johnson each went 1-for-2.
Farm Bureau wrapped up the year with a 19-0 mark.
