With an increase in bear activity noted this year, campers were asked by the Tennessee Valley Authority to leave the campground Friday, Aug. 2.
The decision to close the campground came because bears were becoming more curious about the presence of campers, said Travis Brickey, a TVA spokesperson.
“Bear activity did increase, and the bears were curious, milling around the campground area,” Brickey said.
“Our first priority is the safety of campers. TVA made the decision to close the campgound because we want everyone to be safe.”
Bears have recently – and frequently – caused a ruckus at this favorite Carter County recreation spot.
