Floodwaters recede after deluge damages roads, basements

Carter County Plaza (Ingles and Peebles) parking lot after heavy storms hit the area Sunday after 5 p.m.
People around Elizabethton and Carter County were busy cleaning up yesterday after a deluge of rain caused widespread flooding on Sunday evening.
Although local officials note that damage in Carter County was not as extensive as in nearby Washington County, there were several incidents reported. The storms swept through the area between 6 and 8 p.m. on Sunday, dumping between three and six inches of rain in the county.
