Forest campground closings announced

Forest Service officials at the Cherokee National Forest have announced closing dates for several popular recreation areas in the Watauga Ranger District.

Campgrounds which will close for the season Oct. 15 include Backbone Rock, Cardens Bluff Recreation Area, Dennis Cove Recreation Area, Jacobs Creek Campground and Day Use Area, and Little Oak Recreation Area.

Other closings include the Low Gap Campground, Dec. 9; the Shook Branch Recreation Area and Watauga Point Recreation Area, Oct. 29; and the Laurels Recreation Area, Nov. 13.
