George Hatcher, a World War II prisoner of war, says he is no hero.
The veteran spoke to senior citizens and school-aged teenagers Monday morning at the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center about his experiences as a prisoner of war in Germany.
“I am one of the Erwin Nine,” Hatcher said regarding the truths of his life. “I am a 92-year-old veteran. I am a deacon at Love Chapel Christian Church. I am a teetotaler. I do not use alcohol, drugs or tobacco. I take regular exercise every morning. I live by the golden rule and first commandment.”
