Emergency personnel work to remove a victim from one of the two cars that collided on West Elk Avenue Tuesday evening.

A horrific crash closed a heavily traveled Elizabethton street for several hours and sent four people – including three juveniles – to Johnson City Medical Center Tuesday evening.

The Elizabethton Police Department said Kimberly Taylor, 53, Elizabethton, was driving her 1993 Chevrolet Camaro westbound on West Elk Avenue near the Broad Street junction when her vehicle crossed
into the eastbound lane.

Shortly after crossing into the opposing lane, Taylor’s vehicle collided head-on with a 1996 Mazda 626, which was being driven by one of the juveniles. The other two were passengers.

Taylor was in critical but stable condition this morning at JCMC, according to Mountain States Health Alliance Communications Manager Teresa Hicks. More than 12 hours after the crash, the EPD was unable to provide the Star with information on the condition of the other victims.

All four lanes of the street were closed as emergency crews worked to contain the scene.
