Mayor Curt Alexander recognized Helen Wilson Monday evening for her service as chairman of the Elizabethton Historic Zoning Commission. Wilson served as chairman of the commission from its inception eight years ago until July when she stepped down. She will remain a member of the commission.
The commission first discussed the possibility of initiating a conservation district in Elizabethton during the May meeting. The district chosen would be in the area of Carter Boulevard and Pine Hill Road, along with portions of Orchard, Field and Garden Roads. The reason for choosing that area of the city is that the neighborhood is one of the more unique sections of town since a large majority of the homes in that area were built in the late 1920s as homes for the workers in the rayon factories.
