The Gap Creek Road project has hit a slight roadblock.
Crews working on the project have encountered unfavorable foundation conditions causing a delay in the completion date.
Michael Dick, who is the Tennessee Department of Transportation district operations supervisor for the Gap Creek Road project, said the new completion date for the project is May 2015, instead of October 2014.
“I don’t see anything coming up that could push this completion date back further,” he said. “Stuff does come up, but as of right now I don’t see anything else hindering this job.”
Dick explained the trouble crews had after discovering the foundation of the project was not as sturdy as planned.
“We had a slope layback,” he said. “Once we got in there and started to dig a little bit, we noticed the material was different. We have to change how we go about constructing the slopes.”
