‘Give Thanks’ campaign targets renovation costs

East Tennessee Christian Home and Academy’s annual Give Thanks campaign is under way, and administrators aim to recoup the costs of extensive renovations undertaken earlier this year.

This yearly fundraising effort asks supporters of the academy to donate an amount equal to their expected spending on holiday meals this year in order to continue operations at the home.

“We sent out nearly 2,000 letters, so it was a pretty major campaign,” said Ron Marvel, the academy’s director. “If we can get our additional funding in, our hope is to open up two houses and serve additional families.”

The academy serves as a home for girls in need throughout the area, and also offers an “accelerated Christian education” program designed to graduate girls with a high school diploma. Marvel says the academy hopes to instill a Christian set of ethics and values in addition to providing a high school-level education to the girls in the program.

“We can feed them, we can clothe them, we can even entertain them,” said Marvel. “But nothing is going to change a child like forming a relationship with Christ.”
