A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Delie Townsend Stevens.
Mrs. Simerly was a homemaker. She was a member of Sunrise Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 17 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Simerly; three sons, Johnnie K. Simerly and fiancé Lori Tester, Jeffery L. Simerly and wife Thelma and Michael N. Simerly and wife Susie, all of Roan Mountain; a special daughter-in-law, Diane Simerly; her grandchildren, Amy Salvatore, Tonya Cole, Jonathan, Jacob, Allison and Austin; her great-grandchildren, Madison, Cheyenne, Della Townsend and Charlie Stevens; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Hazel Stevens, Elizabethton.
Funeral services for Mrs. Simerly will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, September 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Billy Morgan and the Rev. Perry Markland officiating. Music will be provided by Tyron Powell. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, in the Hall Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Saturday.
