GREENEVILLE (AP) — State officials have decertified the Greene County jail citing overcrowded conditions as the main reason behind the action.
Tennessee Corrections Institute spokesman Christopher Garrett told The Greenville Sun that the board met Wednesday and took the action. He said it stems from a failed inspection in April. Garrett said the jail was given an opportunity to present a plan to solve overcrowding issues, but no plan was submitted.
Sheriff Steve Burns says local officials could still adopt a plan in order to get the jail recertified.
