GREENEVILLE — For the first time this season, the Elizabethton Twins are in the rearview mirror.
Strong pitching and timely hits prevailed as the Astros completed a home sweep over the visiting Twins 3-1 Monday night at Pioneer Park, moving Greeneville to the top of the West Division standings.
Jandel Gustave surrendered one run on two hits in a solid five-inning start to collect the win for the Astros, followed by a shutdown effort by the bullpen of Geraldo Ramirez, J.D. Osborne and Gonzalo Sanudo.
“They threw some pretty good arms at us,” Elizabethton manager Ray Smith said. “Plus the shadows. It made (Gustave’s) good fastball even liver and made his tough breaking ball tougher to pick up. This is the nature of the game.”
