During Tuesday morning’s assembly, Little Milligan Elementary Principal J.R. Campbell told his students how proud he was of his school.
“So many good things have happened to us,” Campbell said. “You guys are the biggest part of it. We’ve got the best teachers. Then along came Mr. and Mrs. Grindstaff.”
The assembly paid tribute to Steve and Ashley Grindstaff of the Grindstaff family of auto dealerships, who raised more than $7,500 for Little Milligan.
While celebrating the first birthday of their twin sons – Baron and Bentley – the Grindstaffs held a fundraiser specifically for the students of Little Milligan.
“I wanted to do a nice birthday party for them,” Ashley Grindstaff said during the assembly. “But I thought about you all, and thought, ‘What if we did a fundraiser in honor of the boys and raise money for the school?’ ”
Thought became action, and in October 2012 the Grindstaffs hosted the fundraiser in the form of a costume party.
“They treated us like kings,” Campbell said of the fundraiser. “I’ve never been treated so well in all my life.”
Interim Director of Carter County Schools Kevin Ward, who attended the party dressed as Santa Claus, expressed his gratitude for the donation after the assembly.
