Hampton gets past Happy Valley

The capacity crowds that once filled Hampton and Happy Valley’s gymnasiums are now absent. So are the school’s legendary coaches, but not the rivalry.
Hampton outslugged Happy Valley 64-54 on Friday night in a spirted affair that had fans boiling at Bayless Gym, especially the maroon-clad ones.

The Bulldogs built a 36-23 halftime lead and shot 17-of-23 from the foul line in that span.
A 12-1 foul differential to start the game didn’t sit well with Happy Valley — and neither did the two technical fouls whistled. One came at the end of the quarter because a Warrior player rolled the ball away from the official after the horn sounded.
The ’Dogs led after one 21-8.
