Hampton shakes off South Greene in fourth

By Matt Laws

It was a game of runs between Hampton and South Greene on Tuesday night. Ultimately, it was the Bulldogs who landed the knockout punch.

Cheyenne Camillo scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, as Hampton (17-2, 4-0) dismissed a pesky Rebels (8-7, 3-3) squad with a fourth-quarter run to take a 71-57 victory in Watauga Valley Conference action.
For the No. 6 team in Class A in the TSSAA AP Poll, it was a battle from the opening tip.

“The kids kept playing hard,” coach Ned Smith said. “I didn’t think we had hustled as much as we had in the past. I thought South Greene got a lot of 50/50 balls, and I thought we were standing up on defense. I didn’t think we played good defense and we got outhustled tonight.”
