Happy Valley High School’s 2013 homecoming queen will be crowned during tonight’s game against Johnson County High.
After homecoming candidates’ names were announced last Friday, each grade level was able to vote for a classmate in their own grade level, and all students voted for a queen.
The homecoming game starts at 7:30 p.m. and the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior courts will be introduced during halftime.
Senior candidates for queen are Kaitlyn Campbell, Kasey Hawkins, Emily Mangrum and Alexis Woods.
• Campbell is the daughter of Ernie Campbell and Crystal Lawson; she will be escorted by Corey Garland, son of Charles and Sherly Garland.
• Hawkins is the daughter of Matthew and Rhonda Mitchell; she will be escorted by Anthony Schwartz.
• Mangrum is the daughter of Dwayne and April Mangrum; she will be escorted by Brandon Murray, son of Charles and Rita Murray.
• Woods is the daughter of Tony and Chrissy Woods; she will be escorted by Joseph Arnold, son of John and Janice Arnold.
Freshmen Sarah Vance and Emily Whitaker, sophomores Sadie Buchanan and Lauren Cline and juniors Sydney Green and Cheyenne Kesterson will join the four queen candidates on the field.
Before the game, members of the homecoming court, junior and middle school athletics and cheerleaders will participate in a parade at 6 p.m.
The parade will start at Happy Valley Elementary School and conclude on the Warriors’ field.
Students were invited to participate in “Spirit Week” Sept. 16-20 to build anticipation for the homecoming game.
Students have dressed according to a set theme each day this week.
Themes included “Make Believe Monday,” “Tacky Tuesday,” “Twin Day” and “Throwback Thursday.” In order to promote school spirit, students will be donning maroon and white clothing on Friday.
A senior talent show and staff versus students basketball game will also be held today.
