Some of the faces may have changed but the intensity level was unmistakable between Appalachian Athletic Conference foes, Milligan College and Virginia Intermont College at Anglin Field on Wednesday evening.
The Buffaloes hoped to avenge – at least partially – the sting of last November’s loss to the Cobras in the AAC playoffs and thanks to a three-goal hat trick from sophomore midfielder Anthony Matekenya, Milligan (1-2 overall, 1-0 AAC) was able to take a 3-2 victory.
“We have been working on our level of intensity,” Matekenya said. “We showed it today and we relied on our fitness to keep the level high throughout the match. We really needed this win; it is a great confidence booster for us.”
