Highlanders breeze past Huskies

BAILEYTON — Taylor Whitehead and Dylan McClellan controlled both ends of the floor for Cloudland on Friday night to lead the Highlanders to a 65-44 road win over North Greene that opened Watauga Valley Conference play the right way.
Coach Brandon Carpenter said it wasn’t a flawless performance by the Highlanders, but he was pleased with his squad’s showing to get a tough win in a tough place to play.
“The kids played a little lackluster at times, but overall they came through in the end,” the coach said. “We got some turnovers and hit a few clutch shots. Coach (Brandon) Broyles is doing a good job with those guys. They played hard. They battled all night long.”
