Highlanders lose close one with Knights

It may have been senior night for the Cloudland girls, but the young Highlanders tried to claim some of the magic. However, Providence had other ideas.

Cloudland tied the game with 18 seconds remaining Tuesday, but was unable to hold on as it fell 54-51 to Providence Academy inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium.

In girls’ action, the Lady ’Landers celebrated senior night in style as they rolled to a 53-15 win over the Lady Knights.
In the varsity nightcap, Cloudland’s boys, who do not have a senior on this year’s roster, were not able to keep the intensity up for four full quarters — which is the staple of the ’Landers’ program.

“I hope we learn from tonight’s experience because when we play with intensity we are a different basketball team,” Cloudland coach Gary Harrison. “Providence has a good basketball team, but we have to play with toughness night in and night out. When we play with intensity, which we did in small spurts tonight, we are in business and have a great shot at winning night in and night out.”
