Homes face fire threat

Firefighters battled through the night to control a 20-acre forest fire on state land in the Stout Hollow area of Hampton.
James Heaton, a forestry technician with the Tennessee Division of Forestry, said Wednesday morning that several structures were threatened, but none had been destroyed by the fire that started shortly after 8:30 Tuesday night.
“It’s actively burning right now,” Heaton said. “We had crews on it all night last night and we’re all headed up there again this morning.”
He said crews used bulldozers to dig lines to contain the rapidly spreading fire.
