    Larry C. Maupin

    Larry Clayton Maupin, 61, 109 Parham Street, Hampton, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at his residence.

    A native of Harlan, Ky., he was a son of the late Jerry and Liza Williams Maupin.

    Mr. Maupin had lived in Carter County most of his life. He was a retired drywall worker and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid fisherman.

    Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Delph Maupin; two daughters, Janie Burns and Rhonda Hillman, both of Hampton; two sons, Jackie Guire and George R. Maupin, both of Hampton; five brothers, Jerry Maupin, Elizabethton, Charles, John Albert and Lee Roy Maupin, all of Johnson City, and Danny Ray Maupin, Kingsport; six sisters, Mary Cole, Johnson City, Judy Rowland and Margaret Jones, both of Elizabethton, Aileen Herron and Shirley Hughes, both of Jonesborough, and Sue Crenshaw of Mississippi; four granddaughters, B.J. Burns, Paige Dugger, Dorothy Dugger and Alyssa Hillman; two grandsons, Travis Willens and Jacob Hillman; and two great-grandsons, A.J. Peterson and Dalton Willens. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Memorial services for Mr. Maupin will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Scott Richie officiating. Music will be provided by Julie Combs. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to his sister, Judy, and his nephew, Jordan, and to Adventa Hospice and nurse, Michelle Salyer. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. It was his request to be cremated.     McKeehan

    Charlotte Mae McKeehan, 75, of Elizabethton, former Clerk and Master of Carter County, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008, at her residence.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Clyde and Laura Ruth Sims McKeehan.

    Mrs. McKeehan was a 1950 graduate of Happy Valley High School. Two weeks after graduation she started working in the Clerk and Master's Office and remained there for 56 years, retiring in 2006. She was sworn in as Clerk and Master September 1, 1982. She also served as Registrar of Elections for several years.

    Charlotte was a member of West Side Christian Church.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Gouge, and two brothers, Basil McKeehan and James McKeehan.

    Survivors include three brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Cathy McKeehan, Roswell, Ga., Luther and Beverly McKeehan and Don and Chris McKeehan, all of Elizabethton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Gene Pickering, Gray, Lois and David Willette, Fairhope, Ala., and Geraldine McKeehan, Elizabethton; and a foster sister, Linda Peters Maynard and her husband James, Baxter, Tenn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    Funeral services for Mrs. McKeehan will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Greg Key and Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Music will be provided by Debbie Hodges and Tabitha Blackwell. Interment will follow in the McKeehan Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, will be Andrew McKeehan, Dick Oatman, Jimmy Hamilton, Bob Elliott, Robert Clark and Chris Shields. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family; Chancellor Richard Johnson; Judge Tom Seeley; Leon Jordan, United States District Court Judge (Former Chancellor); Howard Matherly; George Dugger Jr.; Harry Buck; Jimmy Street and employees of Street Realty; office holders and employees of the Carter County Courthouse; members of the Carter County Bar Association; Linda Morefield and Teresa Simerly.     Eddie L. Cole

    MARIETTA, Ga. -- Eddie Lynn Cole, 63, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2008.

    Born in Elizabethton, Tenn., Eddie had lived in Marietta since 1967. Eddie founded and ran E.L. Cole Enterprises, LLC as a successful paper broker. Eddie is remembered by his warm smile and infectious laugh. He enjoyed many activities such as golf, Friday lunches with his buddies, going to the beach and loving his grandson.

    Eddie is survived by his wife, Phyllis Cole of Marietta; mother, Wyona Cole of Elizabethton, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Frances Robbins of Siler City, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jason Pritchett, and grandson, Pierce of Avondale Estates, Ga.; sisters, Hannah Beard of Hickson, Tenn., and Pam Bennett of Gray, Tenn.; brother, Eric Cole of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and nieces and nephews, Eric Cole, Missy Mink, Brandi Beard, Laura Beard and Nicole Bennett.

    A memorial service was held in the chapel of H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home on Sunday at 3 p.m. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cobb County Humane Society, 148 Fairground Street, SE, Marietta, GA 30060.

    Glenn P. Oaks

    Retired Master Sgt. Glenn P. Oaks, U.S. Army, 77, of Ocala, Fla., died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Atlanta Hospice, Atlanta, Ga., following an extended illness.

    A native of Carter County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Harlan and Louise Sturm Oaks.

    Retired Master Sgt. Oaks was retired from the U.S. Army and retired as an ROTC instructor in the Atlanta City Schools. He was a lifetime member of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166, Elizabethton.

    Retired Master Sgt. Oaks was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie T. Oaks, a son, Matthew Oaks, and a brother, Bobby Oaks.

    Survivors include the mother of his children, Linda Oaks of Shoreham, Vt.; a son and daughter-in-law, Adam P. and Jackie Oaks of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Ashley Oaks and Savannah Oaks, both of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Roger Oaks of Hampton, Tenn., and Jerry Oaks of Akron, Ohio; and a sister, Faye Perry of Hampton, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Funeral services for Retired Master Sgt. Oaks will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home.     Edith A. Pierce

    Edith Annabelle Pierce, 88, 243 McQueen Street, Butler, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, at her residence.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Frankie Jane Pierce Berry.

    Mrs. Pierce was a former employee of Timberland Shoe Company and was a homemaker and care giver. She was a member of the Piercetown Baptist Church.

    In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Pierce, and a brother, Worley Pierce.

    Survivors include four sons, Larry Pierce and his wife Mary and Dennis Pierce, all of Elkhart, Ind., and Randy and Ted Pierce, both of the home; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Novella Christine Pierce Oliver, Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Pierce will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Piercetown Baptist Church with the Rev. Oddis Dugger Jr. officiating. Music will be provided by Nioka Markland.     Howard "Edward" Waters Jr., 39, 112 Anderson Loop, Elizabethton, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his residence following an extended illness.

    He was a native of Carter County, born to Howard E. and Betty Birchfield Waters.

    Mr. Waters had attended Elizabethton High School and was a former employee of Taco John's Restaurant. He attended Harvest Baptist Church, where he worked in the AWANA Program.

    He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Gracie Waters and George and Polly Birchfield, all of Elizabethton, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a very special cousin, James Anderson.

    Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his brother, Ben Waters and his fiancĂ©e, Elizabeth Reynolds; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa and Daniel Price and Rebecca and Raymond Williams, all of Elizabethton; six nephews, Michael Price, Knoxville, Benjamin and Elijah Waters, Troy Williams, Dominick Bethel and Bryant O'Bannon, all of Elizabethton; and four nieces, Gracie and Candance Waters, Samantha Price and Shelby Williams, all of Elizabethton. Several aunts and uncles also survive.

    James F. Shell

    James Fred Shell, 72, of Unicoi, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, in the VA Medical Center Nursing Home.

    Born in Banner Elk, N.C., he was a native of Roan Mountain and had lived the majority of his life in Elizabethton. He was a son of the late Roy and Mary Archer Shell.

    Mr. Shell had served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an engineer with Great Lakes Research Corporation until its closing.

    Mr. Shell was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Scout Leader. He was active in the Elizabethton Optimist Club, the Elizabethton Jaycees and was an avid Betsy Band Booster. He was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church, Kingsport.

    Survivors include his wife, Delores Phillips Shell; two daughters, Connie Douglas and husband John Mark, Kingsport, and Deborah Stidham and her fiancĂ© John L. Webb, Johnson City; a son, James Fred Shell Jr. and wife Jennifer, Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Zachary Douglas, Lindsey Stidham, Charles Shell and Greta Shell; a step-daughter, Angie Davis and husband Rob, Gray; a step-son, William Ray Jones, Johnson City; step-grandchildren, Andrea Whitney, Carrie Wagner and Sabrina McKee; step-great-grandchildren, Audrey Whitney, Maykala Whitney and Kylie Wagner; and his brother-in-law, Thomas E. Phillips and wife Cathy.

    A Service to Celebrate the life of James Fred Shell will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating. Music will be provided by Wayne Bledscoe. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post No. 2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to Dr. Carol Procter, Katherine Neal, Dr. Charles Payne, the staff of the VA Nursing Home Unit and the staff of the 3rd Floor of Indian Path Hospital.     Gladys McIntosh Stover, 94, of Elizabethton, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness.

    Mrs. Stover was a native of Greeleyville, S.C. She was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the oldest living member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henderson Stover, in 1962.

    Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

    A memorial service for Mrs. Stover will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jared Wood and the Rev. E.E. Widby officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church choir. Private disposition will be held at a later date. Bill McKinney Gene E. Shell Clyde E. Street

Clyde E. Street

    Clyde Earnie Street, 2234 Dave Buck Road, Johnson City, born Jan. 30, 1914, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 1, 2008, in the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center. He graduated from Cloudland High School and went into the Army in 1941. After basic training, he was assigned to a cannon company in the 8th Infantry Division. After training in Ireland, the Division landed on Utah Beach, Normandy, on July 4, 1944. The Division pushed across France to Luxembourg into Germany and then moved north to Schwerin, Germany, near the Baltic Sea when the war in Europe ended. This was a drive of 266 days. He returned to the states and was released from the Army in New Jersey. He worked at North American Rayon Corporation and Bemberg Plants until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Street was a member of Grace Baptist Church, however, in later years he attended Greenwood Baptist Church. He was a good man who loved God, his family and his friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Etta Honeycutt Street (his mother died when he was four years old); a former wife, Flora Whitson Street; brothers, Earl Street Sr., and Carol G. Street (infant) and a sister, Lola Street Grindstaff. Survivors include his wife, Iva (Sadie) Hawkins Barnett Street; and a nephew, Earl Street Jr. and his wife Evelyn.

    Funeral service for Clyde Earnie Street will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold McNabb and the Rev. Mike Garland officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Ruth McNabb. Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John Kilpatrick, James Woodard, Marlyn Stoots, Robert Fillers, Paul Saylor, Glen Price, Frank Head and Albert Hyder. Military honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday prior to the funeral service. Gene E. Shell

    Gene Edward Shell, age 69, of Elizabethton, took flight at 5 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, with his Lord and his loving and special wife, Donna Hood Shell.

    He was born in Athens, and was a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University with a degree in Pastoral Ministry. As an ordained Minister, he was Pastor of Harmon Memorial Church of the Nazarene in Erwin, for several years. He also served several years in ministry and teaching at Elizabethton Church of the Nazarene.

    Gene Edward Shell is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Hood Shell. Also preceding are his parents, Lige Shell and Nellie Shell.

    Survivors include his brother, Jimmy Shell; niece, Patty Shell Lankford; and great-niece, Emerald Lankford, all of Athens; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil and Beatrice Hood and family; and a very special friend of Donna and Gene, Gail Ferrell.

    The family will recieve friends from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 2630 Highway 75, Blountville, with services being conducted at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Kenley Knight officiating. The family will also recieve friends after the service. Graveside services for Gene Edward Shell will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Kenley Knight officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Gene's friends from Elizabethton Church of the Nazarene. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Elizabethton Church of the Nazarene Building fund, 200 West I St., Elizabethton, TN 37643. Gladys Stover

    Mrs. Gladys Stover, 94, Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2008, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness.
