Humphrey tells commission disruption from courthouse cooking scents is no joke

By

The scent of fried potatoes, onions and hamburger wafting through the Carter County Courthouse has been brought to the attention of county commissioners.

Mayor Leon Humphrey took a complaint to commissioners Monday evening, telling them that employees in the Carter County Clerk’s Office regularly cook breakfast and lunch on an electrical range in the first floor kitchenette. The range, Humphrey said, is directly below the return air vent of the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system that supplies heat and air to the clerk’s office, finance department and the mayor’s office.

“The problem is such that it literally makes some of our employees sick,” Humphrey said.
